BMC polls live- Shiv Sena candidate Vishwanath Mahadeshwar will be elected as Mumbai's Mayor

Shiv Sena candidate Vishwanath Mahadeshwar will be elected as Mumbai's Mayor
on Wednesday. The mayoral election will be held in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation at 12 pm. The special general body meeting of 227 newly-elected corporators will elect mayor by show of hands. The mayor's or Mumbai's first citizen's tenure is for two and a half years.
Mahadeshwar, a three-time corporator from Santacruz and college principal, is Sena's mayor candidate with Hemangi Worlikar as deputy mayor candidate. However, for Vishwanath Mahadeshwar the ride from nomination to mayor election date has not been smooth. He has been alleged to have grabbed a flat meant for BMC employees and have obtained salary from government-aided college during elections. While the Sena has denied such allegations, both the cases are in court.
In show if strength, Sena has planned a victory march in an open bus from BMC headquarters to Hutatama Chowk after the mayor elections.
Mayoral election proceedings begin in civic hall in Mumbai.
After a hard-fought battle, the Sena leadership was relieved as the BJP has decided not to field candidate and offered outside support to the Sena nominee. BJP is neither bagging any committee head position or occupying opposition seat in civic body.
